Undefeated in 2011. The only Ontario team that can make that claim.
Doesn’t that sound good? It’s even better when you hear the Leafs started that game by running up a 5-0 lead against a bitter rival. Even better when a long time AHLer (whose first shot at the big time was brought to an abrupt end) shows up and delivers, putting him 1 goal ahead of blue chipper Nazem Kadri.
And oh my, was this win needed. With playoff hopes fading like green from a Christmas tree thanks to one win in six games it was good to see the Leafs get a solid win. Hopefully this is part of a trend; players are driving harder, making big hits and clutch saves. This style of play should have come with 2 points against Carolina, but all of their attacks were warded off by strong goaltending.
The most encouraging story of the last few games would have to be the play of Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak ever since they got a case of the crabs, Joey Crabb to be more specific. It seems even since he joined the line formerly known as First both Bozak and Kessel have the scoring itch. Combine this with Crabs willing to go into the dark places, dig in and do the dirty work and you have a rather interesting combination.
Side note: Joey Crabb has 4 points in 5 games, putting him above John Mitchell in team scoring.
Now, if you will excuse me I have to walk around downtown Ottawa in my Leaf jersey, just to make sure everyone knows how amazing last night’s slaughter of the Senators was.
