So let me get this straight: Brian Burke traded a player that he has acquired twice before to a team he once ran to acquire a player he once traded from that team and once tried to reacquire for the same team?
Seems to be an interesting scenario unfolding here, as more and more Ducks end up flying north for the winter I think I have finally figured out Burke’s plan. It is ingenious! I can’t wait to wake up in the near future and see Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan taking to the ice in blue and white.
Hell, if Bob Murray is willing to send Lupul in addition to a solid prospect and a late pick for someone like Beauchemin, then I bet we could hang C-Mac or Grabbo out there and net at least 2 of them.
Failing that, there is a strong chance Ilya Bryzgalov and/or Dustin Penner migrate over this off season.
It seem’s Burke has found a way to keep everyone happy: Get rid of underperforming vets, trade for established but still young talent like Lupul (20-28 goals most seasons, may yet recover form at only 27), bring in solid prospects, stockpile picks and give the kids, Aulie in this instance, a serious shot in the bigs.
This man is truly a wizard to have oulled this off. Even more so by keeping his third in season pre-deadline trade a secret. Well done Burkey, now keep the smart moves coming.
